Welcome to Guard Duty’s new look!
It is our sincere hope that through this website you will find encouragement and hope.
Guard Duty, Inc. is a non-profit organization that supports our military and veterans.
Founded by Ms. DJ Atkinson-Fee in 2006 (shown on left), Guard Duty brought to Spencer County, Kentucky, for first annual Veterans Celebration in the county’s 200+ history. Guard Duty honors our veterans during the Veterans Celebration (the first Saturday of November) by starting the day out with the Veteran”s Honor Ceremony which includes military color guards, guest speakers, and videos featuring Kentucky veterans. Following the honor ceremony, is the veteran’s parade featuring not only floats, local organizatios and marching bands but also vintage military vehicles and WWII re-enactors. After the parade is “Defenders”, the military show highlighting food, craft booths,  vendors, and, of course, modern and vintage military displays. At the end of “Defenders” is the honoring of our fallen complete with Taps, 21 gun salute, and fly-over. In past years, Guard Duty held the “Glory Run”, a 5K race for military and the public. It was a great opportunity for local military units to come out and do PT while encouraging the local community runners and walkers.

Guard Duty also sends care packages to our troops each year through “Operation Mrs. Claus” and “Operation Cookie Drop”.

DJ comes from a long line of military heroes. Her father, LTC. George Bixenmann, US Army, was a Pearl Harbor survival and continued serving until his retirement in 1981. DJ’s son, Sam, recently returned from his tour in Iraq during “Operation Iraqi Freedom”. Several of her brothers and uncles also have served in the armed forces.

DJ was raised in a Christian household where her father was also a “prayer warriour” who taught his children faith and love for God and Country. Lessons to be taught to our children today in such a troubled world.
DJ now lives in Kentucky with her husband and is a mother to three successful adult children:
Angela, who had served in the US Air Force and now a military wife and a mother
Sam, US Army
and Kate, who served as a reserve police officer and is now a loan officer for a major bank.

Serving in Iraq, Sam often trusted as he prayed the 91 Psalm of protection from the Most High while DJ prayed not only the 91st but also rejoiced praying the 92 Psalm…
“vs, 1…It is good to praise the Lord, to sing praise to You name, Most High, to declare Your faithfulness at night, with a ten-stringed harp and the music of a lyre. For You have made me rejoice, Lord, by what You have done; I will shout for joy because of the works of Your hands…
vs. 12… “The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. Planted n the house of the Lord they thrive in the courtyards of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, healthy and green, to declare: The Lord is just; He is my rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him.”

The Lord inhabits the praises of His people so if you are in need of any kind, praise Him, trust Him, thank Him for He cares so much for you!  He loves you! His promises are sure and He IS faithful!

DJ enjoys Kentucky’s country living with her three horses, three dogs, five cats, and a white dove.
