In Their Own Words…

ATTENTION VETERANS!

GUARD DUTY IS LOOKING FOR YOUR STORY OR WORDS OF WISDOM TO ENCOURAGE TODAY’S YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN NOW SERVING IN OUR ARMED FORCES!

Please check out our newest page above entitled, “In Their Own Words” where you can post your personal story and thoughts.

Your country is still calling on you to selflessly serve again now by supporting our active duty men and women through this mission of encouragement and legacy. Help us revive the patriotic heart of America by the honoring of God and Country through your own words.

The LORD is near…

“The LORD is near to all who all on Him, to all who call on Him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; He hears their cry and saves them.”
Psalm 145:18-19
Do you feel alone today? Don’t despair for God cares dearly for you and is closer to you than you think. He is just waiting for you to call out to Him. He will be faithful to help you and comfort you.
Let us stand by you in your hour of need as well through prayer. Just click on the tab, “Special Ops” and let us know how to pray for you today.

God’s Promises…

In His Word, God gave us promises that we can rely on when we need hope and comfort. These promises reveal to us the deepest nature of God and tell us who God is in relation to His people.
When we have problems or when we are afraid, we often begin to imagine the worst-case scenario. We forget that our loving Father holds us in His hands. When fear and doubt about God’s faithfulness seem overwhelming, here’s a way to reforcus:
1. Chose to trust that God is bigger, smarter and more loving than you can imagine. God loves us and He always keeps His promises. Read and reread God’s promises to you Fill you mind with them.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”  Proverbs 3:5-6
2. Resist the temptation to worship the problem. It’s a common form of idolatry! It’s easy to get so focused on a problem so that we talk about it endlessly instead of praying about it and focusing on Gods ability to handle it.
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
3. Regain your joy and peace: Focus on God-on who He is and what He has done for you and worship Him. Keep His ability, not the problem’s overwhelming nature, in the forefront of you mind.
“I lift up my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from? My help comes rom the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let you foot slip-He who watches over you will not slumber.” Psalm 121:1-3
4. Pray, thank God, and let Him take care of it!
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ.” Philippians 4:6-7

Operation Cookie Drop Newspaper Article

By JOEL FICKEL
The men and women of US Army XXX Infantry, which is currently stationed in Afghanistan, got to taste a little bit of home last month, thanks to the efforts of eight-year-old Ivy Pulliam, her mother, Theresa, and all the young ladies of Girl Scout Troop 1395.

In late May, the troop donated two hundred boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to Guard Duty, Inc., a military support organization based in Taylorsville, which then sent the cookies to troops overseas, effectively putting “Operation Cookie Drop” in motion.

“It’s a way to show how much we appreciate what they do,” said Theresa Pulliam, not only a scout parent but also Troop Leader and Cookie Booth Manager for Troop 1395. “And I think it gave them a little part of home.”

The idea for the project came from Ivy, a home-school student and devoted Girl Scout who wanted to do her part to help the American service persons who are putting their lives on the line thousands of miles away from home.

To raise the $700 dollars necessary to pay for the cookies, the Girl Scouts spent several painstaking months collecting donations.

“They didn’t have to do it. They could have just pigged out,” said DJ Fee, founder of Guard Duty, laughing. “They went beyond themselves.”

With the help of private donors, the Knights of Columbus, an international Catholic service organization, handled the cost of shipping the cookies to the war torn Middle Eastern nation.

The HHC 1/502 Infantry, which is deployed from Fort Campbell, has supported Veterans Celebration for the past four years by driving military vehicles in the Veterans Parade and providing games for the static display. Western Kentucky University Alumnus, Tyrone D, who was “adopted through the heart” by Fee, serves within the unit and accepted the gesture enthusiastically.

“It was very meaningful to him. He was so thankful!” said Fee.

According to both Fee and the Pulliams, the project embodies much more than just cookies.

“Anything that represents support from home is so uplifting for them,” said Fee, who also serves as events coordinator for Guard Duty.

Guard Duty is a non-denominational Christian group “formed to boost the morale of our country’s warriors and to come alongside their family to offer support whether their loved one is deployed or serving at home,” according to guardduty777.com. The group established and organized the first Veterans Day Celebration for Taylorsville.

Ivy and her mother, who have been actively involved with Girl Scouts for four years, hope to send 50 more boxes in the coming weeks and establish “Operation Cookie Drop” as an ongoing project for the scouts until the troops are home.

Lazarus, Come Forth!

DJ, Come Forth!

The words of Jesus so long ago yet still commanded to each of us when we feel that we no longer           have life or strength within us. Life itself is so demanding of our time and energy. Life often                    distracts us in directions that can drain us so that we become exhausted…totally exhausted.

Should I say it is “Life” or is it really the “enemy” that drains us. Afterall, we are warned that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Hm…I KNOW (as you can tell by the dated entries here I posted). When we make choices that are not God’s choices for us we can become exhausted, drained, depleted. And why? Well, because we lean on our own understanding and not seek God’s Will for our lives. God supplies all our needs to accomplish what He asks us to do.

Our carnal self is cleverly led by the lust of the flesh, lust of the eye, and pride of life to seek things that will gradually lead us to exhaustion and never satisfies us. Tragically, we are deceived into chasing after economic, fleshly, or other worldly goal that often takes our energy from the things of God. Soon we become “dead”. We desperately need to be revived.

Jesus speaks to our hearts. The Holy Spirit sometimes shakes us and we promise to do better but “life” again tells us that we need to work harder to achieve financial independence or whatever else the “enemy” deceives us into believing. But God has His agents here on earth. My “angel” encouraged me and after many, many times that Jesus told me to get back to what is truly meaningful and lasting by “blogging” here, my special “angel”  reminded me that if I do not follow God’s direction who will?

I have a job that God assigned for me and my blog may never be read by the masses. It may only bless just me by praising Him and encouraging myself by this blog but whatever the purpose God knows the outcome. It may only be an act of simple obedience to Him but it is my assignment and God will not leave us in our exhaustion but revived us as we choose to follow His will.

Lazarus, come forth! DJ come forth and be revived!
